Heavenly Shapewear

It doesn’t get much more heavenly than this–angels in feathered wings and spangly corsets wafting their ethereal gorgeousness down the pink carpet catwalk at the Lexington Armory.

Just a day ago, 30 of the world’s most perfectly-formed dream goddesses accumulated pre-show in black leather jackets and boots and stopped traffic in Times Square, pre-broadcast for the VS 2009 Fashion Show.

Last night in New York, at Victoria’s Secret filming, streamed live on the web by Modelinia, these angelic beings, all uber-models, super- models or mini mega-models in the making–made women blush and men flush as they paraded down the glittery V-shaped stage and showcased the new collection of lingerie, nightwear and loungewear for lingerie-leader VS.

Shrouded in mystery, the would-be and wannabe angels and presenters were held a secret, with up- to- the- minute each day news coverage of new angels fresh from Angel Boot Camp, who would walk, and whether 12 time-attendee Heidi Klum would be capable to shift her post-preggers weight gain (from only 6 weeks ago when she gave birth to baby girl Lou Samuel) quicker than a flap of her angel wings in order to hostess the show.

And Klum bedecked in plum did not disappoint! ‘I’m unquestionably one of the heaviest of the 30 girls in the show. And I still have 20 lbs. to go,’ she said. ‘But why not? I like my outfit. I like the way it looks on me.’ Amazing in her fantasmagoric costume, Klumangel was the center of attention, surrounded by decadence, glitz, glamor and fantasy.

This year’s themes were Star Trooper, All Aboard, Pink Planet, Enchanted Forest and Romantic Journey. OTT and Out of this world!

Stylist Charlotte Stockdale said of the inspiring program:

‘We came up with the idea of this girl who lands from outer space in Paris. She gets on a train that comes to a halt in Pinkland, where pink girls get on and off. Then they go into this fairy-tale forest and little lady bugs and butterflies land on them and vines grow up on their clothes. Then, there’s Tick-Tock Time; the wings in this division are based on clocks – there’s one modeled after a pocket watch with metallic feathers. And she ends up in this regal realm of princess-ness, where the wings have Swarovski jewels and peacock feathers.’

And we haven’t even brought up the rest of the ‘band of angels’!

Marisa Miller, covergirl of Sports Illustrated Swim issue 2008 appeared in a $3 million dollar diamond studded Fantasy bra studded with more than 150 carats of a girl’s best friend supporting man’s second fave. She ‘stole’ the show.

Other regular Angels Selita Eubanks, Alessandra Ambrosio and Doutzen Kroes (who was the face for Versace and Valentino) were joined by Brit-angel Rosie Huntington Whitely, known for her luscious Agent Provocateur commercial.

Chanel Iman, throwing her bag into the audience at one point, and newbie Miranda Kerr all walked also. Miranda had just come, in boots made for walking, fresh from Paris Fashion Week where she made the closely inconceivable transition from underwear modelling to the catwalk for Balenciaga.

Surprise attendee, Anja Rubik who claimed her friends spurred and encouraged her to show, quipped ‘I normally never do underwear shows, but this is so much fun, so relaxed, so cool, and I heard the Black Eyed Peas were going to be performing. It’s in New York and I live in New York, so I decisive to do it! It’s finelooking crazy.’

Undone by Klum, at eight months pregnant each, regular Angels Karoline Korkova and Adriana Lima had to step off their pedestals in the Angel throng and be substituted with Emanuela de Paula, Lindsay Ellingson and Candice Swanepoel.

Fergie, an Angel from the city of angels sang with the Peas in an emerald corseted gown fit for Maleficent.

The FROW was likewise a lofty bunch with designers Zac Posen and Alexander Wang perched near uber-editor Carine Roitfeld and costume architect of SATC fame, Patricia Field.

Airing is scheduled on CBS on December 1 at 10 PM EST when this heavenly band graces each telly in the land.

4Much more than a love story
By Vampires and Tofu
This book was so much more than I expected! I started reading thinking it was going to be another formulaic teen paranormal romance (as much as I love ‘em ya gotta admit, a lot of of them ARE gorgeous predictable.) And yes, there is romance but, more importantly, this is the story of a family engaged in a struggle to cope with a difficult situation. Zoe’s five year old sister, Abria, has been diagnosed with autism and that has changed things for every one in the family. Laurens doesn’t take the Hallmark greeting card approach here which I thought was a brave and honorable writing decision. The strain of taking care of Abria affects every one in the family, Zoe turns to drinking and hooking up to deal with the stress while her younger brother has turned to drugs.

Enter Matthias, guardian angel to Abria. Zoe is the only one who may see him but even more importantly, he turns out to be the only one who may REALLY see ZOE…see past the drinking and the partying to the girl she is inside. After years of her parents not in truth giving her much attention (they’re good people just so overwhelmed with Abria,) and friends seeing her as a party collaborator and boys seeing her as an easy hookup…well, it’s no wonder she starts to fall for Matthias.

The romance in Heavenly gives rise to naturally and believably (yes, even though he is an angel =) which I loved. They in truth expended time together and talked to each other and had REASONS to give rise to feelings. Not just the old cliched “she couldn’t explain her sensations but she saw him and was in love.” I liked that the romance made sense. It’s not all smooth sailing for Zoe and Matthias though, there are rules guardian angels have to follow, rules that make things difficult to say the least!

There’s more I would LOVE to talk about here, but I don’t wanna give any spoilers so I’m just gonna go in front and say give this one a try, I don’t think you will be disappointed. As a matter of fact, there’s a good chance you’ll find yourself shedding a tear or two before it’s over (I did.)

5Jennifer Laurens’ Heavenly – An Amazing Book!
By MirrorMarie
This book blew my mind. I read it in one sitting, I was so enthralled. It captures so well the struggle of a family dealing with an autistic child, as well as teenagers who abuse drugs and alcohol. I speak from experience when I say that this novel described with perfective accuracy the struggles, heartache, and emotions a family like Zoe’s would live through. Her kinship with Matthias is pretty – fulfilling the need within all persons to be loved for who they are, even with all their flaws and shortcomings. The forbidden love aspect just adds a little spice to the romance – keeping me on the edge of my seat (and oftentimes squeaking with teen-girl-ish delight) all around the entire experience. Also, for readers who are hesitant to embark on a literary traveling involving angels – don’t let that stop you for a second. No matter one’s beliefs, this story is timeless, and one that everyone, without exception, may relate to. Read it. It will lift you up and stick with you long after you’ve stopped devouring the pages at unbelievable speeds… :) This is unquestionably my bestloved book by Jennifer Laurens so far, and I can’t wait for the story to continue.

5Loved it!
By Marlee DiCristofano
Highly commend this book. Pulls you in from start out to finish. Jennifer Laurens helped me feel the tangle of emotions, the love and the heartache, and how much isolation, an autistic child may cause in a family.

Heavenly is a great story and a powerful read. Just when we think there is no hope, along comes an individual in our lives that helps us to be a better person. Matthias will have to be each girl’s dream because Matthias demonstrates unconditional love and expects those he cares for to respect and honor themselves. Don’t miss out! This book is worth the time.
